A financeirização do Cerrado brasileiro:
Impactos socioambientais, dinâmicas econômicas e caminhos para a sustentabilidade

The Brazilian Cerrado, recognized as one of the most biodiverse savannas in the world, faces mounting threats due to the process of financialization, which transforms its natural resources into commodities for the global market. This article examines the socio-environmental and economic impacts of this phenomenon, marked by the expansion of agribusiness and monocultures as well as land speculation—negative legacies of the Green Revolution—given that such developments intensify environmental degradation, biodiversity loss, and the marginalization of traditional communities, issues long present in Brazil’s history. Recent data reveal that the Cerrado has surpassed the Amazon in deforestation rates, underscoring the urgency of conservation measures. As an alternative, the article proposes sustainable agro-extractivism, exemplified by initiatives such as the Grande Sertão Cooperative, which integrates traditional knowledge, income generation, and ecological preservation. It concludes that robust public policies—such as territorial planning, fiscal incentives, and the strengthening of socio-technical networks—are essential to mitigate the effects of financialization, and that the promotion of sustainable practices alongside community participation offers viable pathways to reconcile economic development, social justice, and biome conservation, thereby ensuring its resilience in the face of climate change and the predatory logic of global capital.
