Statement of Support for DORA

Statement of Support for the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) and Responsible Research Assessment

Enlaces: Revista de Estudos Linguísticos e Literários (Journal of Linguistic and Literary Studies), an open access scientific journal affiliated with the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Bahia (IFBA), declares its support for the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) and for the principles of responsible research assessment.

We recognize that the quality of a scientific work should be judged on its own merits, rather than on the journal in which it is published. Therefore, we commit to:

  1. Not promoting the use of journal-based metrics, such as the Journal Impact Factor, as a substitute measure of the quality of individual articles or of the contributions of researchers.
  2. Assessing manuscripts on their content, through a double-blind peer review process that considers academic rigor, originality, scientific relevance, and the specific characteristics of each text genre (articles, reviews, essays, experience reports, didactic sequences, among others).
  3. Valuing the diversity of outputs and contributions in linguistic and literary studies and in education, including teaching materials, academic interviews, and experience reports.
  4. Ensuring transparency in editorial criteria and review processes, by clearly publishing guidelines for authors and reviewers.
  5. Encouraging appropriate attribution of authorship and credit, recognizing the contributions of everyone involved in the research.
  6. Promoting open access and the free circulation of knowledge in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.
  7. Taking a critical stance toward the use of bibliometric indicators, where they are disclosed, presenting them as complementary information and never as the sole criterion of assessment.

This statement reaffirms the journal’s commitment to an assessment culture that values the quality, integrity, and social and academic impact of research.
